Job summary

The MetroHealth System in Cleveland is seeking a Coordinator (EMT) for Life Flight Operations and Central Dispatch. You will manage start-to-finish call handling, coordinate aircraft and ground unit movements, and serve as a key liaison with EMS and partner agencies.

A strong EMS background and dispatch experience are required. This role involves day/evening shifts in a 72-hour biweekly cycle, with weekends and holidays rotating.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Current Ohio EMT certification and valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • At least 1 year dispatching experience in 911/public safety or EMS.
  • Strong map-reading, navigation skills and geographic knowledge of Ohio.
  • Proficient with CAD, flight dispatch software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact for internal/external customers and manage start-to-finish call handling.
  • Dispatch and monitor movement of aircraft and critical care ground units.
  • Coordinate communication and resource access for burn, cardiac, neurology, pediatric and trauma services.
  • Support EMS and Fire Departments with critical needs; ensure safety of crew and patients.

Shift: Day/Eve rotation, rotating weekends and holidays

Summary

As key member of MetroHealth’s premier and recognized Metro Life Flight (MLF)/MetroHealth emergency care team provides logistics and facilitation for critical patient calls for both MetroHealth and partner organizations. Manages the safe and timely movement of patients between accident scenes, hospitals, and other medical facilities. Serves as an ambassador of both The MetroHealth System brand and values and those of its partners. As the primary point of contact with internal and external customers, provides start-to-finish concierge and call management services, serving as call owner and single touchpoint through all phases of call processing and completion. Ensures access to critical services such as burn, cardiac, neurology, pediatric, and trauma services, engaging in problem resolution and resource access. Coordinates communication and follow-through with a multi-disciplinary and diverse clientele in a timely, systematic and professional manner. Dispatches and monitors the movement of aircraft and critical care ground units, continuously always monitors and facilitates resources for the safety of crew and patients. Supports the local EMS and Fire Departments with critical needs.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
  • Current certification as an Ohio Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Current and valid Ohio Driver’s License and, obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by MetroHealth System insurance carrier’s requirements to operate MetroHealth vehicles.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • 1 year of dispatching experience for a 911 public safety, hospital-based transport, or other EMS operation.
  • Ability to quickly and expertly read a map and understand and convey directions. Knowledge of Ohio geography and other business locations or obtains/displays within 6 months of hire, as supplemented by on-house training.
  • Proficient use of flight computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software, mapping software, and Aviation Vendor Operational Control Center software or obtains/displays within 6 months of hire, as supplemented by in-house training.
  • Strong computer skills, to include MS Office and data entry. Strong knowledge of medical terminology. Detail oriented with strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
Preferred
  • Possess a current Ohio Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.
  • Current certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD). Flight operations or flight dispatch experience.
Physical Requirements
  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Monitor multiple monitors for an extended period. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to push/pull 70-150 pounds. Ability to lift 10-50 pounds. May be required to wear a telephone headset for an extended period.
