Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Position:
This class of positions encompasses supervisory or administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative and judgment in the delivery of health program and support services.

Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesUnder direction and with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, directs and/or coordinates the administration aspects of the department and performs some of the duties described in Level A:

  • Consults with medical and professional staff of other departments and staff from associated health care fields to plan and coordinate joint patient and management objectives. Acts as a liaison between the Department of Medical Services and other administrative divisions.
  • Provides administrative supervision for a health service program.
  • Plans, develops, and may conduct training programs to maintain proficiency of staff and use of new equipment and methods.
  • Allocates staff on basis of workload, space, and available equipment.
  • Coordinates research projects and conducts special studies to evaluate various rehabilitative programs in the department and within the overall objective of the department.
  • Directs the processing of orders for requisitioning of equipment, prosthetic appliances, and medical supplies for patients.
  • As required, consults with medical, nursing and other staff involved in treatment to clarify ambiguities and secure documentation of the records and to secure necessary and timely certification and verification.
  • Ensures that compliance policies and procedures are current and followed.
  • Supervises the office administration and office record keeping activities of the department.
  • Is responsible for employee supervision, performance and employee development of assigned personnel in areas of responsibility and accountability.
  • Supervises the preparation and publication of operational manuals and procedures.
  • Effectively applies ICARE values: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
  • May supervise studies related to the service/program and analyzes modifications and development of systems and procedures to improve departmental operations. Makes recommendations and implements.
  • May analyze patient records with clinical staff to determine whether they document that the length of stay and medical services rendered are consistent with reimbursement formulas, completing necessary forms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year of full-time experience in a health care setting; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of full-time experience in a health care setting; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience, in which each year of relevant training and/or experience can be substituted for 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university. However, all applicants must at least have a High School diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.

  • Serv Safe Manager Certification.
  • HACCP Manager Certification.

Educational Level

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Years Of Experience

  • Two (2) years' supervisory experience in healthcare, institutional, or large-scale food service; cook-chill experience.

Special Equipment/Machines Operated

  • Rational Combi Ovens, industrial steam kettles, Hobart and Koch / Ribbon mixers, Robot Coupe.
  • Auto-Pump Filler, R-60, chill tanks, blast chillers, blast freezers, walk-in refrigeration.
  • Cook-chill packaging and sealing systems; calibrated portioning scales.
  • Material-handling equipment: pallet jacks, electric transport, lift trucks.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Requirements

  • Working knowledge of HACCP, cook-chill, IDDSI, allergen control, and modified-texture diet production.
  • Ability to supervise bargaining-unit staff under collective bargaining agreements; familiar with progressive discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills: yield, labor variance, and inventory variance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; tolerate cold and hot environments.
  • Reads, writes, and speaks English.
