Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling with 1 year of full‑time experience in medically oriented health care and medical support systems environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the listed disciplines with 2 years of full‑time experience in medically oriented health care and medical support systems environment.
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience, where each year of relevant training and/or experience can substitute for 30 semester credits, but at least a Bachelor’s degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates administration aspects of the department with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Consults with medical and professional staff to plan and coordinate joint patient and management objectives; acts as liaison with Department of Medical Services.
  • Provides administrative supervision for a health service program and allocates staff based on workload and equipment.
  • Plans, develops, and may conduct training programs to maintain staff proficiency and use of new equipment and methods.
  • Supervises studies and analyzes modifications to improve departmental operations and implements changes.
  • Coordinates research projects and studies rehabilitative programs within the department.
  • Directs processing of orders for equipment, prosthetics, and medical supplies for patients.
  • Consults with clinical staff to clarify documentation and obtain timely certifications.
  • Ensures compliance policies and procedures are current and followed.

Education

Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling
Bachelor’s degree in disciplines listed above
Equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience with at least a Bachelor’s degree

Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position

This class of positions encompasses supervisory or administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative and judgment in the delivery of health program and support services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under direction and with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, directs and/or coordinates the administration aspects of the department and performs some of the duties described in Level A:

  • Consults with medical and professional staff of other departments and staff from associated health care fields to plan and coordinate joint patient and management objectives. Acts as a liaison between the Department of Medical Services and other administrative divisions.
  • Provides administrative supervision for a health service program.
  • Plans, develops, and may conduct training programs to maintain proficiency of staff and use of new equipment and methods.
  • Allocates staff on basis of workload, space, and available equipment.
  • May supervise studies related to the service/program and analyzes modifications and development of systems and procedures to improve departmental operations. Makes recommendations and implements.
  • Coordinates research projects and conducts special studies to evaluate various rehabilitative programs in the department and within the overall objective of the department.
  • Directs the processing of orders for requisitioning of equipment, prosthetic appliances, and medical supplies for patients.
  • As required, consults with medical, nursing and other staff involved in treatment to clarify ambiguities and secure documentation of the records and to secure necessary and timely certification and verification.
  • May analyze patient records with clinical staff to determine whether they document that the length of stay and medical services rendered are consistent with reimbursement formulas, completing necessary forms.
  • Ensures that compliance policies and procedures current and followed.
  • Supervises the office administration and office record keeping activities of the department.
  • Is responsible for employee supervision, performance and employee development of assigned personnel in areas of responsibility and accountability.
  • Supervises the preparation and publication of operational manuals and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling; and one (1) year of full‑time experience in medically‑oriented health care and medical support systems environment; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines listed in “1” above; and two (2) years of full‑time experience in medically‑oriented health care and medical support systems environment; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience, in which each year of relevant training and/or experience can be substituted for 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university. However, all applicants must at least have a Bachelor’s degree.
