Job summary

Performance Foodservice, a PFG broadline distributor, is seeking a Produce Inventory Clerk to check produce quality, perform daily inventory and remove substandard items. You will interact with customers and vendors, ensure proper dating and rotation, and support repack operations as needed.

The role requires basic procurement/warehouse experience, forklift certification is a plus, and a Monday–Friday schedule with possible Sunday coverage. Safety and accuracy in inventory are essential.

Qualifications

  • Procurement, warehouse and/or administrative experience required.
  • Excellent inventory handling and quality-control abilities.
  • Forklift operation certification is a plus and OSHA training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Check produce quality and perform daily inventory to minimize spoilage.
  • Remove short-dated or spoiled items from inventory and assist repackaging to reduce waste.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors and colleagues regarding quality and delivery issues.
  • Ensure proper product dating, rotation and traceability to maintain quality standards.
  • Operation of forklift and pallet jack following safety protocols.
  • Schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with Sunday coverage during vacation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and use the Warehouse Management System for traceability.
  • Inspect inbound shipments for quality, temperature and freshness; verify against POs and invoices.
  • Follow food safety and traceability protocols and report discrepancies to buyers.

Responsible for checking quality of designated product and taking daily inventory on produce. Removes spoiled product that is short-dated from inventory and repacking full cases into smaller quantities. Responsible for quality check of all produce pick locations. Pulls for dump or salvage any produce with decay or otherwise not meeting shipping requirements. Reports any dumps or salvage to Inventory Control. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned duties efficiently to reduce spoilage and contribute positively to profit margin; working closely with the cooler Receiving Department, Buyer and Category Manager on perishable items.
  • Communicate and interact with customers (and company personnel) and vendors in a friendly, timely and quality manner; ensure customers' and vendors' questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Determine quality of products returned by customers; work with Returns Clerk on returned produce quality.
  • Check quality of produce and ensure poor quality product is removed before a customer can purchase, proper rotation and quality of product on a daily basis.
  • Assist with break / repack full cases to small cases in the most timely and efficient manner as to reduce spoilage and lost inventory.
  • Check for dating issue on designated products on a daily basis. Remove any short dated and bad product from inventory.
  • Keep inventory counts current.
  • Operate forklift and pallet jack equipment safely and as trained.
  • Utilize Warehouse Management System to ensure product traceability and accurate inventory.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Schedule Monday through Friday.
    • Hours 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • At times, vacation cover Sunday inbound receiving / 10,000 cases, hours 6:30 AM to 2:00PM.
  • Inbound Produce Receiving (20% of the Time).
  • Inspect inbound shipments for quality, temperature, and freshness.
  • Verify orders against purchase orders and invoices.
  • Follow proper food safety and traceability protocols.
  • Communicate discrepancies or quality issues with buyer / category manager.
  • Familiarity with the Foodstar system for receiving.

Qualifications

6-12 months Procurement, warehouse and / or administrative experience in related area

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Potential support on Sunday 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM during vacation coverage.

Preferred qualifications

OSHA Forklift Operator certification
