Job Description:

Performs a variety of food production duties under general supervision.
Posting Specifics
  • Pay Rate: Based on Experience
  • Shift Details: PRN (0-40 hrs/wk), no guaranteed hours. Candidate will need to have open availability, including weekends and evenings/nights. Rotating holidays required. Most incumbents will work 1-5 shifts per week based on department needs.
  • Department: Culinary Services at Layton Hospital
  • Additional Details: Knowledge of cooking basics and/or formal culinary training is a plus. Previous front-of-house line cooking experience and healthcare cooking experience are preferred. Ability to train in all aspects of the kitchen.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and cook food, serve customers, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Follow recipes and instructions for food preparation.
  • Prepare bulk food items, large-scale production, line cook, or assemble specialty meals and catered items.
  • Maintain an organized and sanitary work environment.
  • Ensure proper quantities and rotation of products.
  • Interact with customers in catering, retail outlets, or patient care settings.
  • May deliver patient meals, operate cash register, stock supplies, and use ware-washing machines.

Qualifications

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification required by first day of work.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling techniques.
  • Understanding workflow, prioritization, and deadlines.
  • Customer service skills (preferred).
  • Experience with modified diets and commercial cooking equipment (preferred).

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual and manual dexterity for handling equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items, work on hands and knees, and stand for long periods.
  • Tolerance to temperature extremes and exposure to chemicals.
