Job Description:

Performs a variety of food production duties under general supervision.

Posting Specifics

  1. Pay Rate: Based on Experience
  2. Shift Details: PRN (0-40 hrs/wk). Candidate will need to have open availability (including weekends and evening/night shifts. Rotating holidays required). Most incumbents will work 1-3 shifts per week based on the needs of the department.
  3. Department: Culinary Services at Layton Hospital
  4. Additional Details: Knowledge of cooking basics and/or formal Culinary training is a plus. Previous front of house line cooking experience preferred. Healthcare cooking experience preferred. Able to train in all aspects of the kitchen.

Essential Functions

  1. This position prepares and cooks food, serves customers, completes other duties as assigned.
  2. Follows recipes and/or instructions in the preparation of food items.
  3. May prepare bulk food items, large scale production, line cook or complete assembly of specialty meals and catered items.
  4. Maintains an organized and sanitary working environment.
  5. Maintains proper quantities of production with appropriate rotation of product.
  6. Interacts with customers in any venue - catering, retail outlets or patient care.
  7. May be required to deliver patient meals, cashier, stock, use automatic and manual ware-washing machines.

Qualifications

  1. Food Handler Permit (as required by State/County) or ServSafe certification is required by first day of work.
  2. Demonstrated ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  4. Demonstrated ability to utilize safe food handling techniques in all applications.
  5. Understands workflow, prioritizes, uses timelines, understands deadlines.
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service (preferred).
  7. Understands and prepares food according to modified diets using appropriate techniques where applicable (preferred).
  8. Demonstrated ability to utilize commercial cooking equipment (preferred).

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  2. Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  3. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  4. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  5. Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
  6. Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work at a grill or in a refrigerator and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.
