Job summary

DuPage County is pleased to offer a Cook position assigned to the Kenneth Moy DuPage Care Center. Multiple positions available with 5:00am–1:00pm or 11:00am–7:00pm shifts; every other weekend and rotating holidays.

The role involves preparing a variety of dishes and leading dining services staff on shift. A high school diploma and one year of cook or prep-cook experience are required; sanitation certification is preferred or obtainable within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of cook experience in a moderately large institutional setting, or one year as prep-cook in a similar setting or Care Center.
• Sanitation certificate preferred or obtainable within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares a variety of dishes including meats, poultry, eggs, soups, vegetables, salads, sauces and baked goods using methods such as frying, roasting and baking.
• Provides guidance and direction to other dining services employees; may supervise a shift of dining services staff.
• Assists with food, drinks, and supplies ordering when supervisor is absent.
• Trains new employees on departmental procedures.
• Helps customers with special requests or concerns.
• Keeps management informed of concerns or incidents during the shift and contacts management when necessary.
• Maintains proper food temperatures and safe handling practices.
• Prepares special and therapeutic meals as directed.
• Stores delivered food stock and verifies invoices.
• Rotates products on shelves and maintains cooking and storage areas.
• Assists on serving line and with delivering catering orders to county buildings.
