Job summary

Health & Human Services Comm seeks a Cook I for the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center. The role involves routine food preparation, cooking to meet standard and therapeutic diets, and maintaining safe, sanitary kitchen operations.

The position requires following prescribed menus, HACCP guidelines, and may include supervising staff, weekend/holiday work, and occasional overtime to support residents who rely on consistent meal service.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation requirements.
• Ability to operate and sanitize food service equipment.
• Ability to prepare and serve food and maintain clean work areas.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Basic math used in cooking and preparation.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
• Ability to work in hot or cold conditions.

Responsibilities

• Attend to regular shift schedule and perform duties as assigned.
• Prepare, cook, portion, and distribute food for regular and therapeutic diets.
• Supervise others in food preparation, delivery, and sanitation when required.
• Ensure proper storage, sanitation, and safety in kitchen and dining areas.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, and training of staff as needed.
• Adhere to HACCP guidelines and food service safety procedures.
• May drive delivery vehicle and handle cash in kitchen operations.
