Cook / Food Service
Worker Salary: Commensurate with Boone County Schools Service Pay Scale
Qualifications (WV / Policy Considerations)
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Any required food service certification or training per WV or county standards (e.g., ServSafe, local health department).
- Ability to obtain and maintain food handling, sanitation, and safety credentials.
- Pass background check per state and district requirements.
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment (standing long hours, lifting, heat, etc.).
- Pass the NOCTI assessment for Cooks.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals in adherence to federal, state, and district nutritional standards and menu plans.
- Ensure food is prepared hygienically, at correct temperatures, and served safely.
- Assist with menu planning, food preparation, portion control, and recipe adherence.
- Operate kitchen appliances and equipment safely (ovens, stoves, dishwashers).
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, food prep surfaces, storage areas, and serving lines.
- Stock and rotate inventory, check for spoilage, restock as needed, and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations (local health department, state guidelines).
- Report equipment malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Collaborate with cafeteria manager.
Job Description
- Interpret menus and recipes.
- Prepare and serve meals.
- Handle duties of the point of service program.
- Maintain and/or upgrade skills.
- Perform any and all other job related duties as assigned by school principal and food service coordinator.
- Must be willing to work at all schools in the county.
