Job summary

UMass Amherst in Amherst, MA, seeks a Cook I at the Worcester Dining Commons to prepare food in large-scale operations, following recipes and safety standards. You will lead a small kitchen team as station champion, train staff, and support cooks to produce soups, gravies, sauces, and daily meals from SOPs.

This onsite, full-time role requires attention to sanitation, inventory, and customer service, with rotating shifts 2:30pm–10:30pm or 4:30pm–12:30am, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• At least one year of full-time or equivalent experience in cooking of food in large quantities.
• Must be certified as a food handler within six months of start date (e.g., ServSafe).
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in large quantity food preparation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food items per recipes and SOPs to meet customer orders in a timely manner.
• Lead a small kitchen team as station champion and assist with training staff.
• Ensure sanitation, inventory control, and proper storage of ingredients and finished products.
