Cook I – Tucson Campus, Arizona Student Unions
Position located in Tucson Campus, Arizona Student Unions.
Position Summary
Join the heart of campus life at the University of Arizona Student Unions, where culinary creativity meets community. We are seeking passionate Cooks I to bring their skills to our dynamic team. As a Cook I, you will prepare, season and cook a wide variety of food for various food service units, following recipes and using basic kitchen equipment.
This position requires some evening, weekend and holiday work.
Responsibilities
- Prepare food on hot or cold production lines, adhering to recipes.
- Prepare food items from recipes for restaurant on a daily basis.
- Coordinate food preparation needs with supervisor and p.m. staff.
- Coordinate ordering needs with supervisor and p.m. staff.
- Perform food preparation tasks such as sandwich, salad making and beverage preparation, following written standardized recipes.
- Clean and process fruits and vegetables according to recipe specifications.
- Label, date and store fruits and vegetables in proper areas.
- Assemble ingredients to prepare orders.
- Label and date products.
- Assist cold food production when possible.
- Prevent cross contamination of food products.
- Weigh, label and date all food items and store in designated areas.
- Clean countertops, windows, walls, shelves, drain screens and floor mats.
- Clean cooking utensils, grills, oven hoods, and other equipment used in food preparation; ensure all utensils are properly stored.
- Empty sanitizer and take out trash.
- Greet and serve customers in a friendly courteous manner.
- Actively solve problems wherever possible.
- Work harmoniously with co‑workers, supervisors and management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of food service operations including large quantity food preparation.
- Knowledge of job content, practices and procedures.
- Skills necessary to fully perform all aspects of the job.
- Skill in operating various institutional/commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lift, transfer or move a maximum of 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Pay and Benefits
Hourly rate: $16.50 – $18.75. Full benefits available.
