Job summary

University of Arizona is seeking a Cook I to prepare, season, and cook a variety of foods on hot and cold production lines. You will follow established recipes and operate kitchen equipment while coordinating with supervisors and PM staff.

The position requires basic food service knowledge, ability to maintain sanitation, and a willingness to work with a team in a full-time role with 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food on hot or cold lines according to standardized recipes.
  • Prepare daily items for the restaurant following recipes.
  • Coordinate preparation needs with supervisor and PM staff.
  • Coordinate ordering needs with supervisor and PM staff.
  • Perform food prep tasks including sandwiches, salads, beverages per recipes.
  • Ensure sanitation and proper labeling, dating, and storage of food items.

Job description

The Cook I prepares, seasons, and cooks a wide variety of foods for various food service units. This position requires to follow established recipes and apply basic knowledge of kitchen equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares food on hot or cold production lines in accordance with standardized recipes and preparation methods.
  • Prepares daily food items for the restaurant following established recipes.
  • Coordinates food preparation needs with supervisor and PM staff.
  • Coordinates ordering needs with supervisor and PM staff.
  • Performs food preparation tasks, including sandwich, salad and beverage preparation while following written standardized recipes.
  • Cleans and processes fruits and vegetables according to recipe specifications.
  • Labels, dates, and stores fruits and vegetables in proper areas.
  • Assembles and organizes required ingredients to prepare orders.
  • Labels and dates products.
  • Assists with cold food production when possible.
  • Prevents cross-contamination of food products by following proper food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Weighs, labels, dates and stores all food items in designated areas.
  • Cleans countertops, windows, walls, shelves, drain screens and floor mats.
  • Cleans cooking utensils, grills, oven hoods, and other equipment used in food preparation; ensure all utensils are properly stored.
  • Empties sanitizer container and takes out trash.
  • Greets and serves customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Actively solves problems wherever possible.
  • Works harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of food service operations including large-quantity food preparation.
  • Knowledge of job-related practices, procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to fully perform all aspects of the job.
  • Skill in operating various institutional and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Physical Requirement:
  • Mustbe able to occasionally lift, move, and transport a maximum of 50 pounds.
