Job summary

The Assets, Inc. in Anchorage, Alaska is seeking a Food Service Worker / Cook I to join our mission-driven team at a JBER contract site. The role prepares and serves food according to recipes, maintains safety standards, and supports daily kitchen operations.

You should have basic cooking knowledge, understand food safety, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The position is full-time, 30-40 hours per week, with a schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items according to recipes and production requirements.
• Follow AFMIS recipes and guidelines.
• Perform duties in accordance with contract PWS.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and kitchen areas.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
• Complete ServSafe certification as required.
• Work collaboratively with team members and maintain positive customer interactions.
• Participate in trainings and meetings.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Type / Schedule / Pay

Schedule: Varies based on contract needs (may include early mornings, evenings, weekends)

Pay: $22.48 per/hour

Position Summary

The Food Service Worker/Cook prepares and serves food in accordance with contract requirements, food safety standards, and established recipes. This role supports daily kitchen operations and ensures a clean, safe, and efficient food service environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare food items according to standardized recipes and production requirements
• Follow Army Food Management Information System (AFMIS) recipes and guidelines
• Perform duties in accordance with contract Performance Work Statement (PWS)
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and kitchen areas
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely
• Follow all food safety and sanitation standards
• Complete ServSafe certification as required
• Work collaboratively with team members and maintain positive customer interactions
• Participate in trainings and meetings
• Follow all company policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of cooking, food preparation, and knife handling
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
• Previous experience in food service, prep, or line cooking preferred
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to communicate effectively in English for safety and job performance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in high-volume or institutional food service
• Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment
• ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly
• Ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments

Work Environment

• Exposure to heat, cold, and kitchen equipment
• Loud noise levels typical of commercial kitchens
