Job description

Cook - H (Food Services)

Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary manner. Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities. Follow prepared menus and portion control guides. Prepare special diets accurately and record food temperatures for the meals. Prepare pureed foods as needed. Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel in all departments. Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets. Assist with serving meals and clean cooking areas and serving carts. Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses. Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff. Present food appealingly to residents. Cooperate with team members and supervise in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed.

Supervisory Requirements: This job has supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  3. Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
  4. Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions.
  5. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  6. Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret various instructions.
  7. Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate.
  8. Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
  9. Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling frequently; sitting occasionally; talking/hearing frequently; tasting/smelling frequently; lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
