The Salvation Army in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a full-time kitchen cook to plan, prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals and snacks following established guidelines and schedules.

You will clean facilities and equipment, manage supplies, and work with volunteers to ensure meals are ready on time. The role requires a high school diploma/GED and ServSafe certification, with a valid driver's license preferred.

Competenze

• High school diploma or GED with at least one year cooking in large groups.
• ServSafe certification.
• Valid State Driver's License (preferred).

• Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.
• Ensures that enough food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled.
• Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory working with vendors and donors in order to meet the needs of the kitchen; orders, receives, and processes food purchases; verifies that invoices are accurate and submits for further processing.
• Assists in monitoring work of volunteers working in the kitchen.

Job Details: Job Location: PMC-Charlottesville Corps - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, Position Type: Full Time Regular, Education Level: High School Diploma/GED, Salary Range: $14.55 - $16.00Hourly, Job Shift: Day, Job Category: Food Service, Schedule/Hours: M – S 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 pm. (40 hours per week)

About this opportunity:

Plans, prepares, cooks and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.

Key responsibilities:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to cook, taste, and smell food. Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting. Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.

Cook is an essential personnel position requiring attendance during inclement weather and/or emergency events as deemed by the Corps Officer.

Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or equivalent, and one year experience cooking food for large groups,
• or
• any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• ServSafe certified.
• Valid State Drivers License. (Preferred)
