SUNNYSIDE SCHOOL DIST 201 in Sunnyside, WA is seeking a Cook for the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (PIO) for 1 year. The role supports nutrition services at Pioneer Elementary, 2.5 days per week (Tuesday and Thursday). Must be 21+ and able to upload high school diploma or GED.

Starting date to be determined. You will assist in cooking, serving meals, and keeping the kitchen sanitary, under the Nutrition Services Director.

Qualifications

  • Washington State permit for food & beverage service.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • Previous experience in school food service or comparable experience preferred.
  • ASFSA & WSFSA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals for the National School Lunch Program.
  • Maintain sanitary kitchen and service areas.
  • Replenish food during meal service.
  • Store and dispose of unused food properly.
  • Prepare an order list from the menu.
  • Monitor students' food choices to meet nutrition standards.
  • Clean refrigerator and storeroom regularly.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Cook

REPORTS TO: Nutrition Services Director

UNIT CLASSIFICATION: PSE Food Service

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The job of the cook is to assist in the preparing and serving of nutritious meals and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in the cooking, preparing, and serving food for the proper nutritional needs of children within the National School Lunch Program.
  • Assists in the daily clean up of the kitchen and service areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Assists in the responsibility of ensuring that during meal serve periods the supply of food offered is replenished regularly.
  • Assumes responsibility for the proper storage and disposal of unused food.
  • Assists in the preparing of an order list of items specified on the menu.
  • Monitors students’ food choices for the purpose of meeting mandated requirements and ensuring adequate nutrition.
  • Performs regular cleaning of refrigerator and storeroom as scheduled by the Head Cook.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 15% walking, and 80% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Washington State Food & Beverage Service Workers Permit.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • Previous experience in school food service or comparable experience preferred.
  • ASFSA & WSFSA certification preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work as part of a team with students and adults in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with students, staff, parents, and community in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
