This position functions as a cook, performing a full range of cooking and food preparation for meals for prisoners and staff in a correctional facility using MDOC standardized processes, recipes, menus, and reports. The role involves working in facility kitchens with prisoner workers.
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
One year of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation.
The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants with misdemeanor or felony convictions are ineligible for employment until they have satisfactorily completed any imposed sentences, including parole or probation.

New hires and returning employees after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), which includes 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training depending on their role and offender contact level. Additional online training is also required.
