Job description

What You'll Do:

The Department of Youth Services provides stability, support, safety, and security for all employees of DYS. The Cook 2 will provide valuable services to the Youth we serve.

Specifically, the Cook 2 will:

1. Work under direction and require thorough knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, storage, and operation of food service equipment to provide application of food preparation, sanitation, and storage of food for the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include preparation and cooking of foods, monitoring service lines, loading carts, storing foods, and general cleaning. Operates commercial/standard kitchen equipment to cook foods; mixes salads; makes desserts, dressings, and breads; prepares hot and cold beverages and special menu foods; slices meat and cheese; makes sandwiches; assembles fruit plates and relish trays; cleans and cuts vegetables and meats before cooking and mixing; cleans work area, equipment, and utensils, ensuring safety and sanitation of the assigned area. Supervises youth workers assigned to the work area.
2. Set up food lines and portions of food in compliance with established dietary requirements. Set up food carts according to daily recipes. Maintains safety and sanitary conditions, packs leftover food for proper storage, and secures food storage areas and utensils.
3. Performs other cook duties as assigned, such as attending meetings, trainings, or seminars related to food preparation, and participating in all in-service trainings.

Minimum qualifications include formal education in arithmetic (including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and either six months of training or six months of experience in food preparation, sanitation, storage, and use of food service equipment in an institutional, school, or restaurant setting.
