Job summary

Eden Vista Prospect Heights is seeking a part-time cook to join our culinary team within a senior living community. You will set up stations, prepare ingredients, cook with grillers and utensils, and ensure dishes are presented beautifully.

The role requires proven cooking experience, adherence to sanitation procedures, teamwork, and strong communication. A high school diploma is required; culinary school is a plus. Shifts include early mornings and some weekends.

Responsibilities

• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
• Prepare ingredients for cooking (chopping, peeling).
• Cook food with various utensils or grillers.
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn.
• Dress dishes for presentation.
• Maintain sanitized and orderly kitchen.
• Store food and other items properly.
• Check ingredient quality and monitor stock.

Position: Cook (Part-time)

Schedule: 5am-1:30pm and/or 11am-7pm (will include Mondays and Fridays)

Responsibilities

• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.)
• Cook food with various utensils or grillers
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn
• Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
• Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
• Check the quality of ingredients
• Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages

Skills

• Food Sanitation Manager license, preferred
• Proven experience as a cook
• Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
• Ability to work in a team
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent physical condition and stamina
• High school diploma or equivalent; A Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage
