Responsibilities

  • Set up trays quickly and neatly per menu and diet slips.
  • Prepare menu items and meals for assigned shifts.
  • Serve food at the correct temperatures with proper portions.
  • Maintain sanitation of work areas, equipment and utensils.
  • Follow posted menus, recipes and diet orders.
  • Assist with other food service tasks as needed.

West Haven Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a per diem cook to join the team.

Job Duties include:
  • Sets up trays quickly, accurately, and in a neat, attractive arrangement.
  • Places food on trays according t menu and special diet slips.
  • Serves food at proper temperature.
  • Handles food and equipment in accordance with sanitary practices.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment such as counters, tray carts, steam tables, coffee urns, stoves, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, floors, mixers, refrigerators, blenders, steamer, etc., in accordance with sanitation regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prepares all menu food items for meals assigned in accordance with posted menus and recipes.
  • Prepares servings according to menu combination or residents request and diet order.
  • Sets up steam table with appropriate meal and meal substitutes.
  • Responsible for removing food items from freezer three day (or at the appropriate time) prior to preparation.Responsible for storing foods in an appropriate manner for proper thawing prior to preparation.
  • Is responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness of the ingredient room.
  • Is responsible for returning unused food to the proper cooler as appropriate.
  • Is responsible for adding menu changes to posted menu in kitchen.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Food Service Director or Food Service Supervisor.
