Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC is hiring a Cook to prepare a variety of foods, pastries, desserts and soups following recipes and portion controls. You will focus on quality, proper temperatures and timely production in a fast-paced kitchen.

The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, evening schedule, onsite. A minimum of one year cooking experience is required, with an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts exempting the experience.

Responsibilities

• Cooks food, including pastries, desserts, and soups, according to recipes. Completes basic mathematical calculations to alter quantities as needed.
• Ensures quality of foods. Assists in testing and standardizing recipes and maintains proper temperatures for food.
• Operates and cleans all production utensils and equipment. Maintains cooking area in a sanitary, neat, and orderly manner.
• Prepares complete meals and special event foods. Arranges food in an appealing manner.
• Prepares food, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, and soups for regular, modified, and calculated diets using weighing and measuring techniques.

• No licensure or certification required.

Professional Experience Requirements

• One (1) year of experience in the cooking of food in quantity lots or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• If Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, no experience is required.
