Job summary

UNC Lenoir Health Care is seeking a cook to accurately prepare, portion, cook, and present hot and cold items for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and events in the Dietary Services unit. You will work with patients, families, and staff to deliver high-quality meals with professional conduct.

The role requires 3–4 years of related kitchen experience, knowledge of equipment operation, and a preference for Food Safety Certification. This is a part-time, onsite position with a 20-hour work week.

Qualifications

  • High School Grad/GED preferred but not required.
  • 3 to 4 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures preferred.
  • Food Safety Certification preferred for advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold items for multiple meal periods.
  • Provide friendly and professional service to patients, families, and staff.

Summary
  • The Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Special/Catered Events.
Responsibilities
  • Patients and families, associates, other departments' personnel are served in providing our services. Perform duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Ensures that contacts with other healthcare team members is friendly, helpful and courteous at all times.
Education
  • High School Grad/GED preferred but not required.
Experience
  • 3 to 4 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures preferred.
Licensure/Registration/Certification
  • Food Safety Certification preferred for advancement.

  • Extensive working knowledge of food preparation.
Work Environment
  • Generally in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.
  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Requirements
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
