Job summary

Avera is hiring a Food Service Associate to prepare, cook, and serve meals for patients, staff, and visitors at our facilities. The role requires adherence to nutrition and sanitation standards and supports a compassionate care environment.

Responsibilities include timely meal delivery, menu input to leadership, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential to contribute to a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily, including hearing and clear communication.
  • Ability to work the specified hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Experience in food service and cooking is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all food items for patients, staff, cafeteria, and special events.
  • Maintains standards for food preparation, sanitation and efficiency.
  • Delivers products according to the scheduled time for each item.
  • Makes menu recommendations to leadership.
  • Performs daily cleaning according to approved standards.
  • Delivers excellent customer service using established scripts.
  • Follows dietary procedures per policy and regulations.

Location: Avera Majestic Bluffs/Avera Sister James Care Center

Worker Type: Regular

Shift: Primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (United States of America)

Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $18.75 - $23.00

Hours: 7:45am-4:15pm + Every other Weekend/Holiday

A Brief Overview Responsible for preparation, cooking, service, and distribution of food in accordance with approved menus for patients/residents, employees and visitors.

What you will do
  • Prepares all food items for patients/resident, meal service, staff, cafeteria, and special functions.
  • Meets standards established by appropriate leader for food preparation, quality, sanitation, and efficiency.
  • Delivers all products according to time schedule set for the specific item.
  • Makes recommendations to leader for all menus.
  • Completes daily assigned cleaning in accordance with approved standards.
  • Responsible for delivering excellent customer service by utilizing the appropriate scripts developed for Food Services.
  • Ensures that all dietary procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned.

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

High School or GED Equivalent ServSafe Certificate - National Restaurant Association Upon Hire Less than 1 year Food service/cooking related education and /or training.
