Job Description and Responsibilities:

As a member of the production team, under general supervision, responsible for preparing and serving menu items and catering meals using established procedures and recipes, while maintaining high standards of sanitation, safety, and quality assurance.

Typical duties include:

  • Performing basic culinary skills such as vegetable and fruit preparation, salad making, egg cookery, sandwich assembly, stock and soup preparation, basic sauces, garde-manger, garnishing, sautéing, breading, frying, meat and fish preparation, and simple desserts.
  • Following standardized recipes and procedures, adhering to safety and sanitation standards.
  • Operating and maintaining kitchen equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Promoting teamwork and assisting peers.
  • Performing other related tasks as required.
Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, push carts up to 75 pounds, and operate kitchen equipment safely.
  • Ability to tolerate temperature extremes and move about campus for catering events.
  • Must wear PPE and cut-resistant gloves when handling sharp tools.
Work Schedule and Conditions:

Works 40 hours per week, year-round, onsite at Brown University.
