Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to prepare cold food, bakery, and salad items. Depending on business needs, the Cook may also cook hot meals (e.g., burgers, fries, eggs, and other hot meal items). All food is prepared in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, along with our established policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
  1. Prepare meals following menus and recipes, ensuring taste, temperature, and appearance are palatable and appetizing.
  2. Inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diets are served; serve food according to portion control procedures; prepare food for therapeutic diets as per menus and special diet orders.
  3. Prepare cold items, bakery, and salad foods.
  4. Cook hot foods as directed; follow culinary practices, procedures, and food safety standards.
  5. Adhere to food service timelines.
  6. Prepare and serve substitute foods for residents refusing menu options.
  7. Serve meals to residents and guests as needed.
  8. Assist in preparing food for special events and parties.
  9. Maintain sanitary regulations and Food Serve Safe standards.
  10. Keep work areas clean and safe.
  11. Assist with food prep for upcoming meals and days.
  12. Manage inventory and replenish supplies.
  13. Meet federal and state in-service requirements.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  1. Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
  2. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work nights/weekends as needed.
  4. Willingness to work overtime and on-call if required.
  5. Excellent customer service skills.
  6. Well-organized with attention to detail.
  7. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Education And Experience
  1. At least one year of food preparation experience in a related field.
  2. Culinary background preferred.
  3. Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Active Serve Safe Certification or Food Handlers Certificate preferred.

Note: If you do not already have an active Serve Safe Certification, you will be required to obtain it within the first 6 months of employment. Assistance may be provided by the Chef or Culinary Director.

Tools

Tools and equipment used include cleaning products, vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, and snow removal equipment such as shovels and snow blowers.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Information

Position is full-time, entry-level, in the Food & Restaurant industry, within Hospitals and Healthcare sectors, based in Portland, OR, with a salary range of $55,700 to $75,400.
