Cedarhurst of Newburgh, a regional healthcare provider and true friend of older adults, seeks a service-minded, career-oriented individual to join our team as a Cook at our Cedarhurst of Newburgh community.
As a Cook, you will have the opportunity to connect with, and positively impact the lives of, our residents daily! You will provide a top-notch dining experience for our residents and their families.
Working with the Dining Services Director, you will impact the lives of our residents by:
- Ensuring the proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods as indicated on the menu cycle and standardized recipes.
- Tasting and preparing food to determine quality.
- Preparing all special dietary needs as directed by the Dining Services Director and/or menus assigned.
- Determining food and supplies needed and coordinating meal production with serving hours.
- Assisting with proper documentation of temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules.
- Assisting with orientation and training of new kitchen staff.
- Handling food in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Practicing all safety and loss prevention procedures.
- Attending all in-services as required.
- Maintaining safety standards as outlined by Cedarhurst of Newburgh guidelines for infection control.
- Utilizing basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Maintaining appropriate food temperatures by ensuring proper cooling/heating procedures are followed and equipment is working properly.
- Remaining current and up to date with all food safety licensing requirements for FDA, state, county, and local authorities, and ensuring all guidelines are adhered to.
- Ensuring effective communication with residents’ families regarding their care, including physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing.
- Working well with others, taking direction from management, and engaging in conflict intervention and resolution as needed.
- The physical demands of the job include occasional standing/movement, communication, and handling written information. Employees must occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move up to 50 pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
- Other duties as assigned.
To become a Cook, you will need:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and previous experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience as a cook preferred.
- Applicable state/county licensure.
- Food Manager Certification or ability to obtain.
- CPR or BLS certification preferred.
Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, Firefox), Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and any HR-related systems if applicable.
