Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Full Time Cook to prepare, cook, and present daily meals and events at a private college-preparatory school in McLean, VA. The role offers $21 per hour with weekday and weekend availability from 10am to 7pm, plus free meals and uniforms.

The Cook will manage high-volume food production, follow recipes, ensure food safety, and support sanitation across storage areas and kitchens. Flexible, team-oriented, and growth-minded candidates are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 5 years of proven experience as a restaurant line and/or contract dining cook.
• ServSafe Certification and Allertrain (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure.
• Knife handling knowledge and experience with braising, steaming, and roasting.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, breads, desserts, and other food items.
• Prepare items in batches close to serving time to ensure quality and minimize over-production.
• Follow recipes and suggest changes to improve products.
• Cook, maintain, and store foods at required temperatures.
• Take and record temperatures following sanitation standards for food safety.
• Maintain records of production amounts, attendance and leftovers for forecasting.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers, and storerooms with proper labeling and dating.
• Attend daily production meetings and provide input on leftovers utilization and efficiency.
• Perform duties following food safety and sanitation best practices.

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Full Time Cook responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting daily meals and special events at a private college-preparatory school located in McLean, VA.

• $21 an hour
• Availability during the weekdays and weekends from 10am-7 pm

What The Cook Will Do

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, breads, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & left-over amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What The Cook Will Need

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 5 years of proven experience as a restaurant line and/or contract dining cook
• ServSafe® Certification and Allertrain or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• Knife handling knowledge and experience with braising, steaming, and roasting
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Ability to work independently
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
• Reliable transportation, as this account is not serviced by public transportation routes
