Meriwether Godsey, Inc. is hiring a Cook in Philadelphia, PA for a full-time, nine-month term to prepare, cook, and present meals for an independent Pre-K–12 school. Candidates should be available 6a–4p on weekdays, with some weekend events.

The role requires passing an FBI background check, a skills assessment, and a High School diploma or equivalent, with ServSafe certification preferred or obtainable within six months. Prior cooking in high-volume settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of food.
• Prepare items in batches to ensure serving time and quality.
• Follow recipes and suggest improvements for quality.
• Cook and store foods at required temperatures.
• Take temperatures and follow sanitation standards.
• Maintain records of production, attendance, and leftovers.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers, and storerooms.
• Attend daily production meetings and offer input.
• Perform duties in line with food safety best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $21.00 To $21.00 Annually

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Cook responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events at an independent school in Philadelphia, PA, which educates students Pre-K through grade 12.

Must be available to work:

• Between 6a-4p, Monday-Friday
• Weekends as needed for special events

Pay rate: $21 Per Hour

What the Cook will do:

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & leftover amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What the Cook will need:

• Must be able to pass an FBI background check
• Pass a skills assessment
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience as a cook desired, production kitchen or contract dining experience ( 2-4 years of prior experience preferred)
• ServSafe® Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
