Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Floating Cook to support our accounts in the DC/NOVA/MD area. You will work alongside Executive Chefs to prepare, cook, and present daily meals and special events.

In this fast-paced role, you will handle large-volume production, follow recipes, maintain food safety standards, and help forecast needs. Availability weekdays and weekends, with uniforms, meals, and parking provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years of proven experience as a restaurant line and/or contract dining cook.
• ServSafe Certification and Allertrain or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, breads, desserts, and other food items.
• Prepare items in batches close to serving time to ensure quality and avoid interruptions.
• Follow recipes and suggest changes to improve quality and presentation.
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at required temperatures.
• Record temperatures and follow food handling and sanitation standards.
• Maintain production and wastage records to aid forecasting.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers, and storerooms.
• Attend production meetings daily and contribute ideas on leftovers and efficiency.
• Perform duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation practices.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Floating Cook to assist at our accounts, in the DC/NOVA/MD area. As a member of our Team, you will be responsible for working alongside Executive Chefs for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events.

• $25 an hour
• Availability during the weekdays and weekends

What The Floating Cook Will Do

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, breads, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & left-over amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What The Floating Cook Will Need

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 5 years of proven experience as a restaurant line and/or contract dining cook
• ServSafe® Certification and Allertrain or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• Knife handling knowledge and experience with braising, steaming, and roasting
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Ability to work independently
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
