Job summary

Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a qualified cook to prepare meals for our parish and school programs. You will follow established dietary requirements and meal schedules, ensuring quality, quantity and safe serving practices in a faith-based setting.

Responsibilities include selecting ingredients, cooking, baking, portioning, directing kitchen tasks, and maintaining cleanliness. A high school diploma is preferred, with formal food service training and prior kitchen experience valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Formal training in the food service field and/or nutrition and dietetic training highly desirable
  • Work experience in food service in a facility of comparable size
  • General knowledge and support of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies
  • Aptitude for cooking and creativity with food
  • Able to direct and delegate tasks to workers
  • Able to lift at least 35 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Consults with Cafeteria Manager, Pastor or School Administrator when determining menus and the scheduling of cooking times.
  • Plans the cooking schedule so that foods will be ready at specified times.
  • Obtains needed quantities of food and supplies from freezer to be thawed for future use.
  • Responsible for washing, trimming, cooking and seasoning of all required food items.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils or steams meat, fish and other main dish foods and prepares salads, desserts, fruits and vegetables.
  • Carves portions of meat, fish and fowl for individual servings using the accepted guidelines of the Parish or School.
  • Determines food doneness using established guidelines or common sense when preparing food.
  • Directs distribution of food to the serving units.
  • Plans the use of leftover food, place it in containers, labels, dates and puts in refrigerator.
  • May supervise and/or personally clean work areas, dishes, pots and pans and sweep/mop kitchen area.
  • Checks grocery and supply needs. Places orders to restock supplies.
  • May stock pantry and keep storage areas clean.

Job Summary

Responsible for food preparation and production according to established dietary requirements of quality, quantity, nutrition, appearance and temperature. Also is responsible for meeting established meal schedules. This individual will cook and serve meals for both the Early Childhood Learning Center and the Academy of St. Louis. Individual will prepare a monthly meal for the Parish Young at Heart, and Faith Family PSR Program.
