Job Summary:
The Community Cook reports to the Food & Beverage Director and assists in preparing meals safely and appealingly, in compliance with dietary standards and community policies.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares food items according to the Food & Beverage Director's daily menu within scheduled timeframes.
- Keeps food service areas clean and organized.
- Supervises servers in the absence of the Food & Beverage Director.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
- Operates kitchen equipment such as ovens, slicers, mixers, steam tables, toasters, coffee pots, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Ensures resident diets are followed accurately.
- Tracks and accounts for all employee and resident meals daily.
- Reports any loss, breakage, or waste of supplies and equipment to the Food & Beverage Director.
- Observes and reports potential problems in the dietary department.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Cooks large quantities of food, maintaining high quality standards.
- Guides and instructs others in food preparation and serving.
- Maintains professionalism under stress.
- Recognizes needs and assists others proactively.
- Builds positive relationships with employees and residents.
- Ensures neatness, cleanliness, and safety in the kitchen.
- Adheres to resident rights and community policies on resident care.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Food & Beverage Director.
Compliance and Safety:
- Follows all emergency procedures.
- Understands and implements safety policies and procedures.
- Reports on-the-job injuries promptly to the Food & Beverage Director.
Communication:
- Communicates effectively with the Food & Beverage Director and staff.
- Immediately reports any changes in residents' physical or mental health.
- Maintains acceptable attendance and notifies if unable to work as scheduled.
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification:
- ServSafe Certification required.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food preparation.
- Understanding of cooking times and temperatures per state guidelines.
- Knowledge of meat cuts and seasonings.
- Proficiency in various food preparation skills.
- Experience working with seniors and understanding their dietary needs.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40-50 pounds.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Work in hot/humid environments.
- Handle burns, cuts, and slips safely.
- Assess food quality through taste and smell.
