Position Summary:

The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and providing supervision to all dietary aides.

The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and providing supervision to all dietary aides.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide nutritious meals to Residents, staff, and visitors as directed.
  • Plan meals ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions.
  • Work closely with the facility’s Registered Dietitian to ensure meals meet nutritional needs. Make changes to meal plans when necessary with approval.
  • Ensure food supplies are appropriate and place orders when necessary.
  • Oversee food tray line to ensure trays are prepared according to diet cards efficiently to meet scheduled meal and snack times.
  • Supervise dietary aides as directed.
  • Follow sanitation policies and procedures in accordance with regulations.
  • Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area free of hazards.
  • Properly store equipment, tools, and supplies at all times.
  • Report malfunctions, supply needs, hazardous conditions, and incidents to the supervisor.
  • Maintain Resident dignity, privacy, and comfort, interacting warmly and respectfully.
  • Communicate effectively with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Participate in meetings, in-services, and continuing education as required.
  • Follow Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards.
  • Protect Resident Rights by promoting informed decisions, dignity, and reporting abuse or neglect.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position oversees the kitchen production and Dietary Aides.

Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Food Sanitation Certification (preferred).
  • One year of experience as a Cook (preferred).
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Ability to prepare and serve nutritious meals at proper times and temperatures.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions, including calculations.
  • Basic knowledge of food service, sanitation, and safety.
