Position Summary
The Cook plans, prepares, and cooks various food items to ensure the highest quality and experience for guests in the restaurant, carryout, and delivery. They ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and food storage procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare salads, sauces, dough, cheeses, pizza crust, vegetables, sandwiches, and casseroles.
- Follows measurement charts to ensure consistent and quality products.
- Bakes, fries, and microwaves main dishes and cooks or heats other food items.
- Observes and tests cooking by viewing, smelling, piercing with a fork, and testing temperature with a thermometer to determine if items are properly cooked. Provides guidance during food preparation.
- Washes, peels, cuts, dices, and shreds vegetables and fruits.
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas and utensils, including washing, sanitizing, cleaning walls, shelves, ovens, microwaves, and floors.
- Monitors thermostat controls to regulate temperature of kitchen equipment and reports malfunctions.
- Records product usage and waste.
- Operates dishwasher.
- Delivers clean dishes, utensils, and glasses to service areas.
Skills and Experience
- Ability to learn food safety procedures.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate on orders.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Follow ingredient measurements and safety requirements.
- No prior experience required.
Licenses/Certificates
- May require a Food Handler’s permit or Foodservice Sanitation Certification, depending on local laws.
Physical Demands
- Exerts force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
- Work involves standing, walking, and performing duties over extended shifts, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late nights.
- Requires reaching, bending, handling, and sensory skills like taste.
Working Conditions
- Mostly indoor environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and water.
- Uses various kitchen equipment and tools.
