Job Title: Cook

Reports To: Dietary Manager

Job Summary

The Cook prepares and serves food including texture modified and therapeutic diets according to the facility menu, following all safety and quality standards.

Essential Functions

• The Cook must be detail-oriented, well-groomed, act professionally, and be a team player.
• Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions.
• Prepares food in accordance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations, under the direction of the Dining Services Director or Chef.
• Assists in proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
• Supports dietary aides as necessary and directs other employees in the absence of the Dining Services Director.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand English, follow directions, and complete tasks.
• Follows time schedules for meal preparation and serving.
• Maintains a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
• Has experience with quantity food production methods and general knowledge of nutrition.
• Reads and applies requirements of food tray cards accurately.
• Maintains records and completes reports as required.
• Possesses good written and oral communication skills.
• Keeps positive interactions with residents, clients, staff, and the public.
• Works around food and cleaning products safely.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must complete an approved sanitation and safety course within 60 days.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialized training in foodservice is desirable.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/carry, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, and stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods.

Work Schedule

As assigned, including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Work Environment

Clinical setting.
