Job summary

Community Assessment & Treatment Services, Inc. is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for Adult Residential clients under the supervision of the Food Service Manager.

You will work with staff and clients to ensure dietary needs are met and oversee kitchen duties. Responsibilities include timely meal prep from rotating menus, maintaining inventory, placing orders with CFO approval, and upholding sanitation and health codes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current ServSafe certification.
  • Pass a urine drug screen and background check.
  • Experience with large batch, institutional cooking.
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Timely preparation of meals per rotating menus and dietary needs.
  • Maintain perpetual inventory of food stocks and order items with CFO approval.
  • Review menus for the following week and coordinate purchases.
  • Ensure proper storage, rotation of stock, and waste minimization.
  • Directly supervise volunteer clients and kitchen staff.
  • Maintain sanitation and notify supervisors of maintenance or pest issues.

Community Assessment & Treatment Services, Inc.

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager, the Cook will work with other food service staff and clients to prepare and serve a variety of nutritious and diverse meals to meet the needs of Adult Residential clients. The cook will also oversee clients in the completion of their kitchen duties in a manner consistent with their treatment needs.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Timely preparation of meals in accordance with the rotating, approved menus provided. Creation of authorized restricted diet meals.

  • Maintenance of perpetual inventory of fresh, frozen, and canned food stocks, spices, condiments, and commodity items used in sanitation, cleaning, and serving of meals.

  • Reviews approved menus for the subsequent week and prepares food orders for our purveyors, purchases of fresh fruit and vegetables at the Northeast Food Terminal, and snacks and other items at the Cleveland Food Bank. Submits all orders to the CFO for approval before purchase.

  • Ensures proper storage and rotation of fresh and frozen food stocks to ensure freshness, minimize waste, and comply with local and state health codes.

  • Directly supervises volunteer residential clients and community service workers, food preparation and clean‑up personnel.

  • Sanitation.

  • Maintains the highest level of sanitation in the food preparation, kitchen, and dining areas, including notifying supervision of any repair or maintenance that needs to be accomplished, indication of any pest infestation, or inspections that need to be completed (i.e., the hood inspection every 6 months).


Skills and Knowledge Required


  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must have at least five (2) years of experience with large batch, institutional cooking (up to 100 clients).

  • Ability to cope effectively with crises.

  • Working knowledge of government nutritional guidelines and requirements.


Credentials / Academic Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current ServSafe certification.

  • Must be able to pass a urine drug screen and criminal background check.
