Job summary

Management & Training Corporation in Charleston, WV is seeking a Kitchen/Meal Prep staff member to prepare and cook meals for students at the Charleston Point Job Corps Center, following government and company directives. You will handle vegetables, meats, desserts, beverages, and service lines; maintain sanitation, assist with inventory, and ensure a safe, clean kitchen.

A High School Diploma and ServSafe certification are required or obtained within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have ServSafe certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables, salads, meats, bread and desserts as instructed.
• Cook or bake items with minimal preparation.
• Set up and maintain cafeteria lines and serve meals.
• Replenish napkin, plate, silverware racks and condiments.
• Assist in storage, inventory, and transfer of food ingredients.
• Keep kitchen area, tables and equipment clean and sanitary.
• Ensure work area is safe and organized at all times.

What you will be doing

You’ll be responsible for the preparation and cooking of students’ meals in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential Functions

• Prepare vegetables, salads, meats, bread and desserts as instructed and routinely set forth in an appetizing, eye-appealing meal
• Prepare meats for cooking by washing, trimming, boning, cutting, cubing or forming into patties or loaves.
• Cook or bake items which require minimum preparation.
• Replenishing napkin dispensers, plate racks, silverware racks, salt and pepper shakers and condiments.
• Make coffee, tea and other beverages and set up cafeteria lines and serve meals on the line.
• Assist in the storage and inventory of supplies; transfer food ingredients from storage area to cooking area. Clean food service area, tables and kitchen equipment and appliances.
• Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition, and ensure the work area is safe, clean, and sanitary at all times.

Education And Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a current ServSafe certification or within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
