Job summary

WesleyLife in Atlantic, IA is seeking a Cook to join the Heritage House dining team. You will be responsible for meal production, preparing hot and cold items per daily menus, and following recipes from the Director of Culinary.

The role requires adherence to modified diet plans, food safety, and teamwork to meet production standards. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, at least one year cooking experience, and basic English language skills.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalency required.
• Culinary education is preferred.
• Minimum of one year cooking experience; experience with quantity cooking and modified diet preferred.
• Ability to speak, write and understand English language.
• Attendance is an essential function.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals including hot and cold items per daily menus.
• Follow recipes provided by the Director of Culinary or Chef.
• Follow modified diet plans.
• Monitor food quality and quantity to ensure service standards; take corrective action.
• Work with culinary team to meet deadlines and maintain efficiency.
• Follow infection control techniques and sanitary practices.
• Follow waste control measures and utilize leftovers appropriately.
• Attend educational seminars and in-services as required.
• Complete other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Job Duties: Cook

• Responsible for meal production including preparation of hot and cold meals as required by daily menus.
• Follows and understands recipes provided by the Director of Culinary or Chef
• Understands and follows modified diet plans.
• Monitors food quality and quantity to ensure service standards are maintained. Take corrective action if necessary.
• Shows initiative and time awareness of peak periods to meet productions standards. Works with culinary team to meet deadlines and maintain efficiency.
• Follows infection control techniques in all work and practices. Utilizes sanitary work practice while handling food.
• Follows waste control measures to avoid over and under production and to properly utilize leftovers.
• Attend educational seminars and in-services as required.
• Completes other duties and assists with special projects as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalency required. Culinary education is preferred
• Minimum of one year cooking experience. Experience with quantity cooking and modified diet preferred
• SERV Safe certification preferred
• Ability to speak, write and understand English language
• Attendance is an essential function
