Job description

Responsibilities

• Compiles and maintains list of available drivers.
• Assigns trucks according to availability, purpose of trip, and freight.
• Issues record sheets and all related paperwork to drivers.
• Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate parties of any changes.
• Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.
• Investigates overdue vehicles.
• Directs activities of drivers by two‑way radio.
• Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise.
• Maintains heavy communication with drivers on a daily basis.

Supervisory responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Languages: Spanish fluency required; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.

Must be fluent in Spanish for communication with the driver and owner operators.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat from typical warehouse environments.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
