About the Job

At Google, we follow a simple but vital premise: "Focus on the user and all else will follow." Google’s Conversation Designers leverage their knowledge of human language and communication to create seamless and natural interactions for digital systems across surfaces.

Google User Experience (UX) is made up of multi-disciplinary teams of UX Designers, Researchers, Writers, Content Strategists, Program Managers, and Engineers: we care deeply about the people who use our products. The UX team plays an integral part in gathering insights about the attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of people who use our products to inspire and inform design. We collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create industry-leading products that deliver value for the people who use them, and for Google’s businesses.

As a Conversation Designer, you’ll create conversational, voice-forward experiences across multiple surfaces, such as smart speakers, smart displays, auto, and more. You’ll work on multiple projects simultaneously, work with cross-functional stakeholders, and provide feedback and direction to design work. Design work will include understanding product requirements and user context, and you’ll create flows, prompts, and multi-modal interaction patterns.

In this role, you will design the Google Voice Assistant experience across speakers, displays, and televisions. You will contribute to the future of a communal Google voice assistant for the home, establish new voice design paradigms for Large Language Model (LLM) technology, and shape the conversation design practice for Home. As an advocate for the end user in cross-functional discussions, you will partner with user research to validate designs and work with engineering to deliver simple, polished experiences.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software, and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

  • Create comprehensive voice user interface (VUI) design specifications in collaboration with other UX Designers and Engineers.
  • Partner with Engineering teams to develop LLM's prompt design to adapt responses for speech in a communal home context.
  • Promote best practices and guidelines for designing Voice User Interfaces (VUI) to ensure a consistent brand experience across Google. Develop reference artifacts and resources to assist the broader cross-functional team in voice User interfaces design and prompt writing.
  • Create compelling narratives, executive summaries, and presentations to align stakeholders.
