Westfalia Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Systems Support Technician (Controls Systems) to diagnose and support PLC-based control systems at customer sites. You will work with engineering and sales to deliver reliable automation solutions and ensure safe, efficient operation.

The role includes on-site and remote troubleshooting, on-call support, and collaboration with customers throughout installations and commissioning. This position requires travel and strong communication skills.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 1–4 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or electro-mechanical troubleshooting.
• Experience with field service, technical support, or industrial maintenance preferred.

• Modify and document PLC/HMI programs for material handling equipment.

Westfalia Technologies is a leader in providing automated solutions for plants, warehouses, and distribution centers. We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Systems Support Technician to join our team. The Systems Support Technician (Controls Systems) provides field service, installation, commissioning, and technical support for automated material handling and control systems supplied by Westfalia Technologies. This role is responsible for troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, supporting customers on-site and remotely, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. The technician works closely with Engineering, Sales, and customers to deliver high-quality service and maintain system performance.

Location Requirements: Must live in one of the following states to be considered: MD, PA

Job Functions:

• Perform testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of PLC-based control systems at customer sites
• Debug, modify, and document PLC and HMI programs for material handling equipment
• Provide on-site and remote technical support, including participation in an on-call rotation for emergency customer assistance
• Conduct control system inspections, verification, and validation during service and support visits
• Support preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of S/RMs, conveyors, palletizers, and robotic systems
• Coordinate with Engineering and Sales to resolve technical issues and meet customer requirements
• Process and follow up on parts orders and support service-related sales activities
• Complete service documentation, reports, and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
• Maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal teams
• Assist in production shop activities when field service work is not scheduled
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong troubleshooting skills for industrial control and automation systems
• Proficiency with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (Logix500, Logix5000, PanelView, FactoryTalk View) and Siemens TIA Portal
• Understanding of DeviceNet, Industrial Ethernet, and industrial communication networks
• Knowledge of industrial electrical components, sensors (photoeyes, proximity switches), and NEC standards
• Ability to interpret control system designs and perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
• Familiarity with material handling, packaging, or automation equipment
• Ability to work safely in washdown and industrial environments
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Safety-focused mindset and work practices

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent hands-on experience
• 1–4 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or electro-mechanical troubleshooting
• Experience with field service, technical support, or industrial maintenance preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and move throughout industrial facilities
• Ability to ascend and descend fixed vertical ladders up to 135 feet
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling around machinery for inspection and maintenance
• Ability to visually inspect equipment in low-light environments
• Ability to communicate clearly during active equipment operation
• Fit for air travel and legal eligibility to rent and operate a rental vehicle through the company’s corporate account, in compliance with rental agency policies and insurance requirements.

Required On-Call Rotation: This department participates in a shared on-call rotation to provide support for customer equipment and service needs outside of regular business hours. The rotation is shared among the team to ensure coverage while maintaining a balanced schedule.

Travel Requirements:

• Travel up to 30% of the time, primarily to customer sites for service, troubleshooting, and support activities.

Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
