Job summary

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., seeks a Controls PLC Technician at our Silver Creek lumber mill. You will troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain industrial control systems to support safe, reliable production.

The ideal candidate has PLC experience, strong automation knowledge, and the ability to work across production, maintenance, and engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification is a plus.
• 2+ years of industrial PLC experience.
• Manufacturing experience required; wood products preferred.
• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix.
• Knowledge of industrial electricity, motor controls, VFDs, and AC drives.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Willing to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical machinery and control systems across the plant.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, and process control issues.
• Interpret PLC logic and modify to restore or improve performance.
• Implement and support new control systems and upgrades for efficiency.
• Coordinate with production and maintenance leadership to minimize downtime.
• Maintain backups for all computer systems and PLC programs.
• Set up test equipment and document results.
• Build, calibrate, and repair electrical instruments and testing equipment.
• Provide technical support during construction or equipment installation.
• Complete work orders and keep documentation accurate and timely.
• Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance and report findings.
• Calibrate equipment using precision measurement tools.
• Maintain knowledge through training programs and on-the-job learning.
• Comply with OSHA, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
