Thor is seeking a Data Center Controls Manager, Operations to standardize BMS, EPMS and DCIM across multiple sites in a founder-led hyperscale platform. You will own performance, reliability and development while guiding controls governance and testing from startup through turnover.
The role is remote in the United States with 30–50% travel. Base pay ranges from $150,000 to $175,000 plus a 30% target bonus, a fully vested 4% 401(k) match and 100% of insurance premiums paid.
Data Center Controls Manager, Operations | Founder-Led Hyperscale Developer-Operator | Remote, US
A multi-gigawatt developer-operator wants one controls standard across every site. It needs the operations leader who will set that standard and own it.
The platform is majority founder-owned, with institutional capital behind it. It builds powered shells, build-to-suit facilities and gigascale campuses for hyperscale, AI/HPC and enterprise customers across seven U.S. metro markets. Growth is concentrated in a handful of very large domestic campuses, including a five-building hyperscale build above 200 MW. That concentration makes a single controls standard both achievable and necessary.
You would own the performance, reliability and development of BMS, EPMS and DCIM across multiple facilities, plus the integrations that tie them together. That means leading troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and corrective action, and being the hands-on technical voice when equipment fails. You would also own controls governance: standards, change management, MOPs and test procedures.
The seat is weighted equally toward projects. You would review controls designs, sequences of operation, network architecture, points lists and submittals from an operator’s view. You would then validate performance through startup and turnover, so the operations voice is in the room before handover, not after.
You would report into operations controls leadership and partner most closely with Design Controls Engineering. In year one, success means a stable, accurately reporting estate and a standard that new sites inherit rather than reinvent.
What tends to fit:
This role offers the chance to shape the controls roadmap for a multi-gigawatt platform while it is still being standardized. It also comes with visibility across engineering, construction and operations.
The role is remote, ideally based in Arizona, California, Texas or Illinois.
Expect 30-50% travel, less if you are well located. Base pay is $150,000-$175,000 plus a 30% target bonus, a fully vested 4% 401(k) match and 100% of insurance premiums paid, with flexibility for the right candidate.
