Qualifications

Staff Controls Operator

Location: Abernathy, TX, River Bend, LA, and New Lebanon, IN

Salary: $200,000-$250,000

Position Summary

• Client exists to make humanity more free by accelerating the development of aligned AI.
• The company is focused on delivering 10s to 100s of gigawatts of compute faster than anyone else while acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and operating them through integrated hardware and software teams.
• The Data Center Operations team operates infrastructure at national scale, runs sites while they are still being built, and creates the operating standards required to scale the organization by 100x.

Role Scope

• Operate building management and controls systems, including BMS, SCADA, and EPMS, across live, large-scale data centers.
• Own real-time load and thermal control as sites come online in phases.
• Write operating procedures, alarm-response runbooks, and control sequences that can be standardized across the fleet.
• Diagnose and resolve controls faults onsite, including chiller-sequence issues, breaker misoperations, sensor problems, and control-point errors.
• Tune control sequences and setpoints to support PUE, reliability, efficiency, and cost targets as loads and hardware generations change.
• Identify drifting sensors, incorrect setpoints, and other issues before they become operational incidents.

Key Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience operating controls for live mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial environments, or power systems.
• Experience performing onsite work across relevant controls, electrical, mechanical, or facility disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of BMS, SCADA, and EPMS platforms, including the ability to diagnose faulty sequences, misconfigured points, and control-system issues.
• Experience writing operating procedures and alarm-response runbooks used by other operators.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve controls faults under pressure in live environments.
• Experience tuning control sequences and setpoints while balancing reliability, efficiency, and cost.
• Strong understanding of how controls systems support live operations during construction, load ramps, and facility expansion.
• Preferred experience with hyperscale or colocation data centers, liquid-cooling controls, electrical power-monitoring systems, behind-the-meter generation, and developing controls standards for new fleets.

Additional Notes

• Three total openings across Abernathy, TX and Louisiana.
• This is an onsite role supporting active data-center operations.
• Relevant backgrounds may include Amazon Field Engineers, controls or design engineers supporting other teams, chief engineers, and professionals who have overseen large-capacity facilities.
• Experience overseeing a 100-megawatt campus or similar large-scale environment would be highly relevant.
• Candidates may come from individual-contributor backgrounds; prior people management is not required.
• Strong candidates may have supported teams of consultants or served as the controls subject-matter expert for a large site or fleet.

Pay Range: $200,000-$250,000

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
