Job summary

Rausch and Pausch LP (RAPA) in Auburn, AL, seeks a Group Leader - Controls Engineering to oversee controls development, PLC programming, and IT infrastructure coordination. The role drives multi-discipline collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and vendors, ensuring project goals and budgets align with strategy.

The ideal candidate has a BE with 6+ years in production or automotive testing, strong PLC, programming, and IT leadership, plus travel flexibility and US work authorization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 6 years of experience in production processes, automotive industry, or product testing.
• Programming in one high-level language (C++/Java/Visual Basic/Ruby/Python).
• Strong knowledge of Beckhoff TwinCat PLC and Drives technology.
• Ability to program in Structured Text.
• LabVIEW knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to read electrical drawings in IEC 60617 format.
• Knowledge of US electrical norms NFPA70 and NFPA79.
• Ability to design and layout electrical cabinets.
• MUST be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Willingness to travel within Germany; passport needed.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate technical adeptness in manufacturing processes and work with R&D, manufacturing equipment, and operations for controls and testing equipment.
• Develop and maintain control and testing system programming and design for computer-controlled machinery and processes.
• Manage day-to-day activities of controls and testing engineers to meet goals and metrics.
• Hire, train, and foster professional growth of engineers in the department.
• Participate in leadership meetings to set project goals, priorities, and strategies.
• Oversee annual training, operational, and capital budgeting for OPC department.
• Lead development of process and machine control design including network architecture, wiring diagrams, PLC, testing and interface equipment.
• Lead runoff, acceptance, and installation activities for new equipment; develop integration plans and communicate with contractors and plant staff.
• Manage capital projects focused on process control integration or upgrades.
• Coordinate with RAPA Group IT to maintain IT systems and infrastructure; lead IT service desk and budgets.
• Collaborate with Selb, Germany IT team to standardize infrastructure and support.
• Train users on new programs and technologies; show proactive problem-solving and accountability.
