Job summary

Prysmian Group is seeking a Controls Engineer to support production equipment in our manufacturing environment in Windham, CT. You will develop and maintain control systems, provide maintenance direction, and lead projects from design through startup and cost control.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical/electronics and at least 5 years in manufacturing, with strong PLC and CAD skills and familiarity with Wonderware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in electrical/electronics engineering preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience, wire and cable experience highly desirable.
• Advanced computer skills including PLC programming and CAD; experience with Wonderware a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.
• Provide engineering support to maintenance for electrical/electronic equipment.
• Manage projects from design to startup, including cost estimation, procurement, installation, and safety.
• Coordinate with external electrical engineering, construction, and consulting firms.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets for management review.
• Develop, write, and debug control logic for machine control and modify designs for electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment.
• Analyze electrical schematics and diagnose issues to restore operation.
• Use programming tools to analyze PLC programs for failures or improvements.
• Guide electricians in troubleshooting and programming AC/DC drive systems.
• Troubleshoot with current tech including electrical test equipment and diagnostics.
• Maintain backups and ensure network communications are understood and implemented.

Controls Engineer is responsible for all PLC and computer software supporting production equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.
• Provide engineering support and direction to the maintenance department for maintaining electrical and electronic equipment.
• Manage assigned projects which includes cost estimations, designs, specifications, approvals, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety and overall implementations.
• Manage outside electrical engineering, construction and consulting firms.
• Manage outsourced repairs of critical electronic components.
• Assist the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with the preparation of the annual capital and expense budget for management review.
• Develop, write, and de-bug control logic for machine control, make design modifications and improvements to complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
• Analyze and interpret electrical schematics to the component level as required to make repairs and return equipment to operation.
• Utilize programming devices to analyze PLC programs for failures or improvements.
• Provide direction to electricians in troubleshooting, repair and program AC/DC drive systems.
• Troubleshoot issues utilizing current technology including electrical test equipment and computer diagnosis equipment.
• Members and that sufficient back-up copies are maintained in a safe location.
• Implement, maintain and have a complete understanding of network communications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or an Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronics preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing (wire & cable experience highly desirable).
• Advanced computer skills required including PLC programming and CAD. (Experience with Wonderware a plus).
