Job summary

Giga Energy is seeking a Controls Engineer, Switchboards to own the design, development, and commissioning of control systems for mission-critical infrastructure. Based in Houston or Long Beach, this role requires hands-on panel design, schematics, and programming acumen to ensure systems run reliably.

You will work with sales, production, and customers to deliver complete electrical packages, submittals, and manufacturing-ready designs.

Qualifications

• Strong background in electrical engineering with hands-on experience in switchboard or power distribution systems.
• Excellent communication skills to work cross-functionally with sales, production, quality, and customers.
• Ability to mentor and train technical teams.
• Problem-solving mindset with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Pre-PO & Sales Support: Provide technical expertise to sales teams during bidding and pre-purchase order phase.
• Clarify customer requirements and ensure technical feasibility during proposal development.
• Participate in post-PO engineering reviews with sales teams and customers to align on project scope and deliverables.
• Customer Submittals: Compile and deliver electrical submittal packages including SLDs, breaker schedules, detailed wiring schematics, specs, BOMs, FAT protocols.
• Engineering & Detailed Design: Collaborate with mechanical engineers on switchboard enclosure design and integration; execute power panel electrical design from concept through production-ready docs.
• Develop manufacturing packages for production floor with clear assembly instructions.
• Procurement Support: Source electrical components; specify PMs, SPDs, CTs, and other control devices.
• Operations & Production Support: Guide assembly teams during power panel and component assembly; standardize labeling and wire tagging; provide floor-level technical assistance.
• Quality Assurance & Test Training: Train and audit the quality testing team on ground loop, hi-pot, functional testing, breaker programming, and 480VAC testing; assist in customer witness tests.
• Post-Delivery Support: Provide technical customer service after delivery; troubleshoot field issues on-site or remotely; answer installation questions.
