Job summary

Actalent in Athens, AL seeks a Controls Engineer to ensure reliable PLC systems and lead improvements across production and maintenance teams. You will troubleshoot, program PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, Mitsubishi, Siemens), and contribute to safety upgrades and data integration for Industry 4.0 projects.

The role involves training colleagues, developing control software standards, and collaborating on design, implementation, and commissioning of complex control systems.

Qualifications

• Experience in controls engineering with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and related programming environments.
• Experience with PLC platforms such as Mitsubishi and Siemens for programming and system modifications.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for PLC-based control systems in a production/industrial setting.
• Experience implementing process improvements through control system changes and machine modifications.
• Knowledge of machine safety principles and practical experience upgrading safety features.
• Proficiency in PLC programming and HMI development for industrial applications.
• Experience with robotics integration and control within automated systems.
• Ability to provide training on PLC and HMI equipment to maintenance and operations personnel.
• Experience reviewing outsourced control programs, including safety interlocks and testing requirements.
• Ability to perform instrument loop checks and verify proper operation of control systems.
• Competence in reviewing electrical wiring schematics and loop drawings.
• Experience documenting control projects, including procedures for changes and archiving.
• Ability to develop standards for process control software and hardware.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot PLC control systems to minimise downtime and improve reliability.
• Provide PLC programming and modifications using Allen‑Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Siemens platforms.
• Develop and implement process improvements to enhance performance and efficiency.
• Upgrade machine safety features and implement new safety measures on equipment.
• Support Industry 4.0 initiatives by connecting systems to Ignition and SQL databases.
• Train maintenance and operations personnel on PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting.
