CareerNerds, LLC seeks a Controls Engineer near the Oneida, NY area. The role focuses on designing and implementing machine control systems, including AutoCAD-based component sizing, PLC and HMI programming, and integration across facilities.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in engineering with PLC/HMI experience, NEC/machine safety familiarity, and US work authorization. Travel up to 30% is required as projects span multiple locations.

Qualifications

• AAS or BS in Engineering with 5+ years experience.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with NEC and machine safety standards.
• US work authorization without restriction.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop machine control systems using AutoCAD; size and select VFDs, motors, filters, protection devices, PLCs and HMIs.
• Program, modify, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs and ladder logic; support Siemens controls.
• Lead installation, integration and commissioning of new equipment across local facilities (approx. 30% travel).
• Provide hands-on electrical and controls troubleshooting to maintenance teams; diagnostics, upgrades, wiring, and real-time issue resolution.
• Diagnose control system issues and modify or develop PLC logic to improve production and operations.
