Based in Willis, Texas, this multidisciplinary position spans mechanical, electrical, and controls systems. You will work directly with the energy industry’s most advanced rotating equipment, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, microgrids, BESS, and smart remote monitoring platforms.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As our Controls Engineer, you will lead the development, implementation, and lifecycle support for power generation control systems, with a heavy emphasis on the Mark VIe platform.

System Design & Development

  • End-to-End Ownership: Design, program, and commission PLC/HMI-based control systems for gas turbine and reciprocating engine packages.
  • Architecture & Logic: Develop electrical system architectures, logic diagrams, and functional descriptions from concept through testing.
  • Documentation Authority: Create and maintain electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical), P&IDs, and instrument loop diagrams; serve as the final approval authority for drawing releases.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the engineering liaison for manufacturing, defining component specifications and supporting procurement to ensure high-quality production.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs meet NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 72, ISA, and applicable US/Canadian standards.

Commissioning & Field Support

  • Testing Leadership: Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for new and retrofitted products.
  • Onsite Support: Oversee onsite installation, startup, and troubleshooting (remote and local).
  • Service Integration: Support the field service department and LTSA programs with recommended spares, tooling, and technical manuals.
  • Modernization: Evaluate existing systems for upgrade strategies to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Standardization: Identify opportunities to reduce engineering cycle times and costs through process standardization.

Smart Systems & Remote Monitoring

  • Bonus: Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC programming certifications.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Core Expertise: 6+ years of experience in power generation, specializing in Mark VI and Mark VIe control systems.
  • Platforms: Proficiency in Cimplicity SCADA, Mark VIe Virtual Controller, and Unity/Easy 5 modeling.
  • PLC/HMI: Advanced programming in Allen Bradley (Studio 5000), Siemens (TIA Portal), and FactoryTalk View/Ignition.

  • Standards and Codes: NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 72, ISA S84, CSA, and applicable international standards
  • Functional Safety: SIL requirements, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and emergency shutdown (ESD) design across all disciplines

Who You Are

  • Versatile: Comfortable pivoting between a professional office setting and a high-energy shop floor environment.
  • Problem Solver: Calm under pressure, whether troubleshooting in the field or addressing manufacturing constraints.
  • Communicator: Able to speak clearly with customers, field technicians, and executive leadership in the same afternoon.
