Brief Description
About Aegis Sortation

At Aegis, our purpose is clear: to create raving fans through expert innovation in intralogistics. Our team combines innovative thinking with deep industry expertise to deliver solutions for projects of all sizes, throughputs, and complexities.

Aegis Sortation is a leader in the intralogistics technology and innovation space. Our expertise spans E-Commerce, Freight and Parcel, and Warehouse and Distribution. As a prime integrator, we have a team capable of conceptualizing and laying out complex systems, and completing detailed design engineering, procurement, and field installation across various project platforms. Our commitment to integrating excellence throughout the project life cycle sets us apart, delivering automation solutions to businesses ranging from local service providers to international logistics giants.

About The Role

We are building a Lifecycle Services support team and are looking for a Controls Engineer who thrives on keeping systems running rather than building them from scratch. This is not a project-delivery role — it is a customer-support and reliability role. You will be a frontline technical expert on our 24/7 support desk, starting as part of a two-person team and growing with the business.

Most of your work will be remote: taking customer calls, diagnosing faults, and tuning controls from your desk to get a line back up fast. When an issue can't be solved remotely, you'll mobilize quickly — sometimes on the next flight — to resolve it on site. Between calls, you'll help customers stay ahead of problems through equipment health checks, preventive maintenance, training, and small, well-controlled code changes.

This role is ideal for a field service, maintenance, or controls professional who enjoys troubleshooting under pressure, working directly with customers, and owning uptime for a growing installed base of automated equipment.

What You'll Do
  • Serve on a 24/7 rotating support desk as a first point of contact for customer calls, remotely diagnosing and resolving issues on Aegis automated sortation and material handling systems.
  • Remotely troubleshoot and tune PLC and HMI controls (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley required; Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff a plus), including network I/O, VFDs, servos, and camera/scanner ID systems.
  • Mobilize on short notice for on-site support when an issue cannot be resolved remotely, including immediate travel to customer sites.
  • Perform scheduled equipment health checks and system audits, document findings, and recommend corrective actions at customer sites.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance (PM) planning and execution to maximize uptime and extend equipment life.
  • Implement small code and configuration changes following the Aegis change request / change management procedure.
  • Deliver formal and informal customer and operator training on Aegis equipment.
  • Build and maintain the installed-base knowledge (what technology is deployed where) and develop troubleshooting scripts and runbooks for the support team.
  • Escalate complex issues to product development and engineering, partnering with them to resolve root causes and feed product improvements back into the business.
  • Support commissioning and integration activities as needed during periods of lower support demand.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • 3+ years in controls engineering, field service, or maintenance of automated material handling or comparable industrial automation systems.
  • Proficiency troubleshooting and programming PLCs (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley required; Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff a plus) and HMIs (FactoryTalk View / Optix, Ignition, Wonderware, etc.).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot remotely and calmly under pressure with a customer on the line.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, IO-Link) and 480VAC 3‑phase, 120VAC, and 24VDC control circuits.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical layout drawings (AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Willingness to work a 24/7 rotating on-call schedule.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short notice (25–40%), with a valid driver's license and the ability to fly.
  • Strong customer‑facing communication and the ability to train operators and technicians.
  • Post and parcel experience required or strongly preferred; distribution & freight, e‑commerce, and/or airport & baggage experience is a plus.
  • Certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, relevant PLC certifications) preferred.
Embrace and promote by incorporating into your work the core values of Aegis:
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Everyone is accountable for their work. Above all, respect others.
  • Customer Focus: Always work to exceed customer expectations.
  • Collaboration: Share ideas; train and mentor others to your level. Improve one another.
  • Take it Personal: Complete every task as if your reputation depends on it. Because it does!
  • Make it Better: Ask yourself, “What can I do to make our company better?”
  • Open Minded: Look at the possibilities and think outside the box. Embrace change
Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a remote/home‑office environment using standard office and networking equipment. When traveling to job sites, the environment is typically industrial; this role routinely uses appropriate PPE, electrical diagnostic and implementation tools, laptops, and networking equipment.

This position requires approximately 25–40% travel to domestic customer sites, often on short notice in response to escalations.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to navigate safely over and around warehouse automation equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
